3D Views

The combination of SRTM elevation data and satellite image data enabled a realistic presentation from the earth´s surface in 3D. This data can supplemented by additional layers, for example graphic, legend, 3D objects (buildings, trees etc.), vectorshapes (transport network, hiking trails). Afterward the data can be displayed as image or cutscene on your monitor. ______________________________________________________________________________________

SRTM Mission

The Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) are a cooperation of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the National Imagery and Mapping Agency (NIMA), the German center for Air- and Space Flight (DLR) and the Agenzia Spaziale Italiana (ASI), to construct via Radar Interferometry (X-SAR) the first global, standard elevation model of the world. X-SAR/SRTM tendered an innovative possibility, to record high-precision topographic data with a space supported radar-system. The collected radar-data have been calculated in digital elevation models, they cover the globe in the range between 60° north and 58° south. ______________________________________________________________________________________

Areas of Application:

  • realistic view on the earth with different scale and different point of view
  • simulation of different scenarios for example insolation subject to time of day and weather conditions (shading), floodings, smog, or similar
  • animation of a 3D landscape, virtual flights as cutscene
  • thematic presentation like for example road networks, hiking trails, landuse, or similar
