Maps that focus on a completely special or specific topic, are generally called Thematic Maps. Thematic Maps generally contain no map or orientation grid and only contain the absolute necessary topographic information for the map topic.
The Thematic Map highlighted below, shows important pottery art centers in Italy that were present during the Renaissance (1350-1600). Pottery art experienced its highest point in Italy with the Majolica (Italian tin-glazed ceramic(s)). On the basis of simple topographic data, such as the coastal lines in the Mediterranean area, a map was created for this special topic.
